bpsg is a voluntary organisation of parents of gay and lesbian children who offer support to other parents and families when a family member has 'come out' to them.
Many parents are shocked and upset and often have little understanding of what being gay actually means. They see it as doom and gloom, or they are often convinced their child is going to die from AIDS. What most parents want is for their child to be healthy and happy and they worry that they won't be. But when they bring their concerns to the group they are surrounded by other people who understand them.
Parents are themselves often afraid to 'come out' to others because they think they will be judged for it - but at our meetings they can talk about these fears. We all give a brief introduction and talk a bit about our own circumstances and very often parents recognise things we are talking about.
To many parents it is like a grieving process, but from listening to us they can see that there is something beyond this.
We meet monthly in Solihull Town Centre and anyone is welcome. Please contact us for more information.
Please note that we do not meet in January or August.
